Leonard Bernstein composed the musical in 1953 as a lively homage to New York. The turbulent Greenwich Village always served as inspiration for the musical universal genius. Two Ohio sisters try to navigate the turbulent life of the Big Apple. The younger, Eileen, is preoccupied with devotees, while the rude Ruth tries unsuccessfully to place her literary works with a magazine. The European premiere of the piece took place in 1956 at the Volksoper. Now, 100 years after the birth of Leonard Bernstein, she is presenting a new production.
